For most of us, the holidays are a time of reconnection with family. This can be a precious time filled with special memories when your family feels like a safe, supportive space. However, the more stressors there are for the individuals within a family, the more likely it is that gathering together will increase collective stress during the holidays. Especially this year when 63% of Americans report feeling stress about the future of our nation, 62% feel money stress, and 61% feel stress about work (“Stress In America: The State of Our Nation”, American Psychological Association).
Whew! The holidays this year can be a powder keg when you combine all that stress with the normal stress of interacting with the people who knew best how to push your buttons. So what can you do to increase the potential for family memories filled with laughter, meaningful conversation, and uplifting interactions? Give your family an awesome P.R.E.S.E.N.T.!
